WASHINGTON – Commercial Window Shield has been retained by long-time client, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, for a switchable smart film installation project.
The project involves a new Starbucks that opened inside the center. At issue is the considerable amount of foot traffic in the center and the coffee shop’s operating hours. Presently, convention visitors can see inside the Starbucks even when its closed or when employees are preparing to open. They constantly are trying to open the locked doors, which is especially inconvenient for employees doing the opening prep work.
Commercial Window Shield will be installing switchable smart film on the interior of both sets of entry doors and the surrounding glass. The film has an electrical component that is wired to a light switch. When the switch is on, the film remains clear allowing passersby to see inside. When the switch is off the film becomes opaque, blocking views of the interior and turning the glass into a privacy wall. Starbucks employees will keep the switchable smart film off during the hours that they are closed, solving the problem of would-be customers trying to gain entry during the off-hours.
Since 2016, when Commercial Window Shield was retained by the convention center on an open-ended contract for as-needed projects, the company has completed numerous projects involving almost every type of window film.
